: a renewable natural resource

Nature is our most important resource. We want to understand the principles and needs of nature so that we can take care of the vitality and balance of the environment. Sampo matches and matchboxes are made from over 90% renewable natural materials.

A staggering 70% of Sweden's land area is covered by deciduous forests. Among other deciduous trees, aspen grows at a rate that significantly exceeds its consumption rate. Sampo matches are made in Sweden from Swedish aspen wood. One log yields approximately 370,000 matches, which is enough for the average consumer to use for a thousand years!

Pour one, plant two

For every tree felled in Sweden, at least two new ones are planted. Forest resources have doubled in less than 100 years, making Swedish forests a sustainable and renewable natural resource. Processing and using wood helps to store the carbon bound in the trees during their growth. If trees are left to rot in the forest, the carbon bound in them is released into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide.

“Aspen is a natural part of Sweden's deciduous forests.
Swedish aspen regenerates significantly faster than it is consumed.”

We also reduce our carbon footprint by using rail transport whenever possible. The keywords are innovation, expertise, renewal, and leadership. Drawing heavily on its heritage, Sampo is moving toward a bright future. Naturally and uniquely.
